The Denver Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi
In keeping with the mission of Pi Beta Phi, the Denver Alumnae Club is involved in several local philanthropies, as well as
with the Pi Beta Phi national ones. Read on to learn more about all of these excellent organizations and see how you can
get involved.
Local Philanthropies
National Philanthropies
The Gathering Place (TGP)
This is Denver's only daytime drop-in center for
women and children experiencing homelessness or
poverty. TGP offers a safe daytime refuge to women
and children and provides resources for
self-sufficiency and opportunities to learn new skills.
This supportive environment allows these women to
make positive life changes for themselves and their
children. Learn more at their website:
www.the-gatheringplace.org.
Champions Are Readers (CAR)
The Champions Are Readers program is
a reading enrichment program designed
for Pi Phi volunteers to help third graders
read. CAR improves reading skills, instills
a lifelong love of reading and promotes
family literacy. Click
here to go to the CAR
link on the National Pi Beta Phi website to learn more
about the program and click here to see how to get
involved locally with the alumnae club.
Betsy's Cupboard
Betsy's Cupboard is The Gathering Place's
emergency food and supply bank. Betsy's Cupboard
helps over 500 women each month who otherwise
might not have enough food or basic supplies.
Pi Beta Phi Foundation
The Pi Beta Phi Foundation is committed to fund
programs which promote the intellectual, ethical and
leadership development of members of Pi Beta Phi
Fraternity and, through its philanthropic efforts, to
benefit the larger society. Go directly to the
Foundation's website by clicking below to learn more:

Denver Health Children's Library
Denver Health is a comprehensive, integrated
organization with multiple components including a
hospital, a 911 medical response system, a range of
Family Health Centers, the Denver Public Health
Department, and many other vital health services.
The club has connected with the children's ward of
the hospital and has a goal of building up their
library and reading to the young patients on a
regular basis.
First Book
Pi Beta Phi has partnered with First Book, a nonprofit
organization with a single mission: to give
            low-income families the opportunity to
read and own their first new books. Go to
First Book's own website to find out more
            (

Arrowmont
In conjunction with the University of Tennessee,
Settlement School began giving summer craft
workshops that were highly successful. These
workshops developed into a year-round program of
arts education. Today Arrowmont is an
internationally known visual arts complex, boasting a
renowned faculty and international student body.

  • Champions Are Readers (CAR) will be moving to a new school this fall.  We are excitedly planning for an October program at Cheltenham Elementary School!  This is a fun and truly rewarding program to be involved in as a Pi Phi
Alumnae – so keep your eyes and ears open for all the details as we get everything established with our new
    students.

  • First Book Sponsored The Literacy Site - this site provides an easy way to help give underprivileged children
